The power generated by a wind wheel depends on the radius of the rotor and the velocity of the wind. The wind velocity determines the power exponentially by 3. It is obvious that power generation by windmills underlies a strong fluctuation.

This is shown in the table below, where the theoretically possible power generation of a wind wheel is calculated.. If the full power is achieved at a wind strength of 7 Beaufort at 3 Beaufort only one tenth is produced.
